Royal Enfield Maintenance Tips-chapter-4

Guys so far we have gone through the salient feature of Royal Enfield Classic 500 engine and benefit of EFI.  We have also covered some of the terms used in Bullet Classic engine. In this session we will cover few more terms of motorbike engine in this session.

Indicator horse power or IHP is the power developed by the engine during combustion process and utilized to drive the piston.

Friction horse power or FHP is the value of horse power used or lost due to friction in various moving parts of the motorcycle engine.

Brake horse power or BHP is the value of power actually delivered to the out put shaft or crank shaft.  BHP can be measured by the help of an apparatus called dynamometer.

Brake horse power of a motorbike engine can be drive out by reducing friction horse power from the indicator horse power.

BHP = IHP-FHP

Mechanical Efficiency of a motorcycle engine is the ratio between brake horse power and indicator horse power.

Mechanical efficiency =Brake horsepower/Indicator horse power

When we talk about torque of the motorcycle it is twisting or turning force or effort.  It is the product of a distance and force in circulation motion

circular motion.
